On May 4th 1969 Allan Moffat Debuted his brand new 1969 Trans-Am Mustang at Sandown Raceway in Victoria wearing race number 38. Allan's Trans-Am was the latest state of the art Ford USA factory race car built by Kar Kraft in Detroit who were Ford's in-house race workshop.
The car was further prepared by Bud Moore Engineering to race in the US Trans-Am series but an incredible stroke of luck saw Allan being given the car by Ford to bring to Australia to represent Ford Australia. Sporting sponsorship from Coca-Cola and painted bright red the Trans-Am Mustang won all 3 races on its initial outing to take ou the Southern 60 Trophy.
The arrival of Allan's Trans-Am Mustang changed the face of the sport in Australia forever raising the standard of competition to new heights. In Allan's hands it went on to have a remarkable career spanning over 5 1/2 years and winning 101 races in 156 starts.
