Holden VF Commodore Supercar Tekno Team Darrell Lea STIX - 2016 Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 Winner Drivers: Will Davison / Jonathon Webb 1:18 Scale Tekno / Team Darrell Lea STIX Holden VF Commodore Supercar driven by Will Davison and Jonathon Webb to win the 2016 Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000. The 2016 chapter of the Great Race was certainly an eventful one, although it was the second half of the race that had fans on the edge of their seats after the first 92 laps were raced without a safety car. After the first safety car appeared however, the race exploded into action and as history will show, it was a racing incident in the dying stages of the race involving race leader Jamie Whincup, Garth Tander and Scott McLaughlin which saw Tander in the wall, McLaughlin in the sand and Whincup handed a 15-second penalty for his part which put the race firmly in Will Davison’s hands. Davison certainly wasn’t gifted the win however, duelling with Shane Van Gisbergen while trying to conserve fuel over the final laps. He eventually won the battle as the Darrell Lea STIX Commodore coughed over the line due to a lack of fuel in a thrilling finish, 0.1434 seconds ahead of Van Gisbergen in one of the race’s closest ever finishes. “I’m honestly speechless, I’m not going to give much here because that was so stressful,” Davison said after clinching his second Bathurst 1000 title. “It coughed at the last corner I ran out of fuel as I crossed the line. Started 17th, I knew we were quick. Jonathon Webb had a good feeling this week.” “Some things are weird, I can’t believe how that panned out.” For team owner Webb, it was his second win at Mount Panorama this year, having taken the 12 Hour with Shane van Gisbergen and Alvaro Parente earlier in 2016 and redemption for the team’s 2014 1000 campaign which they came so close to winning; “Unbelievable – we were so close in 14,” Webb said. “I was out the back just playing with my kid trying to ignore what was going on – it’s unbelievable, it’s just amazing.” said Jonathon Webb. This 1:18 Scale replica of the 2016 Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 winner will be produced in die-cast with fully opening parts other than the boot, detailed racing interior and fine finishing throughout. It will come in exclusive limited edition with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity, it’s one that shouldn’t be missed by any Bathurst fan.
