In 1969 Bob Jane heard from a business associate in the US (Parnelli Jones - Indy 500 winner), about the availability of the much rumoured 'Big Block' 427 Camaro. Through his vast network within GM he was able to locate two ZL-1s. Jim Rathman, another Indy 500 winner, who had the ZL-1s air freighted the new vehicles, plus a tonne of GM racing parts, to Jane's Melbourne base. Under the management of John Sawyer, the Bob Jane Racing Team developed the Hugger Orange Camaro to race standard.
