No other name can boast a longer tradition in automotive history than Benz. In 1885, Karl Benz built the world's first vehicle powered by an internal-combustion engine - in essence, the world's first automobile. He continually improved his design, building larger and more powerful machines, including the world's first bus and the first van. By the turnof the century, Benz's name was synonymous with quality, innovation and superior craftsmanship. Between the years 1910 and 1914, the produced a wide variety of cars, from the small 2-litre models to an incredible 22-listre 200hp model-perhaps the largest engine ever placed in a private car. During his period, Bemz automobiles were setting standards in racing competition throughout Europe and North America, while at the same time creating luxurious touring cars for private use. Among these was the elegant 1910 Benz Limited, a four-cylinder model with limousine coachwork, capable of cruising at 60 miles per hour.
