Anyone who knows classic cars knows that no automaker had set higher standard than James Ward Packard, the perfectionist whose legacy endured for more than half a century. The company was revered for carefully crafted motorcars driven by the likes of William D. Rockefeller. In 1911, Packard added considerable power to its list of automotive virtues with a six-cylinder engine that was cranking out 82 bhp by 1912. That year, the company produced one of its most memorable models - the pricey Model Eighteen Landaulet. This car was so luxurious, it cost $4,500-roughly equivalent to $500,000 today! And, of course, only a limited number were produced for the wealthy clientele who could afford one.
