The year was 1967, and everything was right with the world for Carroll Shelby and Ford Motor Company. In the summer of 1967, Shelby and Ford had defended their title at LeMans with another impressive performance by their GT40s, and Shelby was ready to unveil his line-up for 1968 Mustangs to the European market in the fall.
Ford of France was especially eager to have the new 1968 Shelbys on display in their booth at the "Salon de L'Automobile" in Paris, France. A series of telegrams details the requests by Ford to have Shelby send a 1968 GT500 for display, but for some reason Shelby could not make one available. So at the last minute a 1968 GT350 substituted, and was delivered to the Orly International Airport in Paris on Septemter 30, 1967.
This 1968 Shelby GT350 was finished in a beautiful Sunlit Poly Gold which turned out to be a very rare colour as Shelby would eventually remove this as a colour option for 1968. The car was decorated with white rocker stripes, but did not have any other stripes applied.
