Once again Barnard started from scratch when designing the Ferrari F310, the first V10 powered Ferrari. He started with an aerodynamic shape. The F 310's nose was partially raised, while the whole width of the front wing was anchored to a bulky central support. The design of the sides, which partly recaptured the unhappy double bottom solution of the F92A was also puzzling. As we have said, there was a new heart beating under the chassis. The compact 2998.1 cc 75` V10 cylinder engine, combined with new titanium gearing and a composite material spacer, supplied 740-750 horsepower at 16,500 rpm. These were all preludes to a fast redemption, but despite the great commitment of Michael Schumacher only the adverse weather conditions gave Ferrari the first win of the year in the Spanish GP. In order to keep pace with the opponents, the day after the Spanish race Ferrari experts were forced to review the front aerodynamics of the F310. The result was a reduction in the straight gap from Williams and McLaren, and thanks also to an outstanding Michael Schumacher, Ferrari achieved another two well-deserved victories in the Belgian and Italian GP.
