Registered as a corporation in 1936, The National Automotive Service Company (NASCO), was formerly the spare parts department of HMH Ltd and responsible for the availability over a reasonable 'lifespan' of repair parts and approved accessories for General motors vehicles throughout Australia. At that time, the basic GMC chassis was imported from the USA and used bodies by General Motors Holden Limited. When Holden's first all-Australian passenger car - the Holden 48/215 - appeared on the scene in 1948 it was accompanied by a firm policy statement from NASCO that stated; "At no time will a Holden be off the road through lack of a part". The name NASCO was changed in 1974 to GM Parts & Accessories. In 1986 the present name of Holden's Service Parts Operation was adopted. This Trax van is loosely representative of the actual NASCO livery, the most notable feature of which is the 'Flattened Diamond' configuration of the NASCO logo. Trax actually produced 8064 in the NASCO colours, however, 3000 were oversprayed, reprinted and released as the Wm Adams version (8003W) leaving 5064 NASCO models for release in 1987.
