Promoted as the New Generation Holden when released in January of 1968, the new HK model line-up lived right up to this claim. Not only was it much larger in all areas than any previous Holden model, but the choice of trim, engine and transmission combinations was also much wider than ever before. Not only that, but there was also a vast increase in factory options. Brakes, air-conditioning, power steering and or windows, bucket seats, and extra instrumentation but to name just a few could be specified. Across all HK models some 199,039 were built. A new Premier sedan cost $2790 as opposed to the Kingswood at $2359. Other Premier features included the executive roofline and smaller rear window that it shared with the Brougham, tail light extensions, and courtesy light switches on all four doors.
