Following the success of its 48/215 sedan, GM-H appreciated the need for a small, general purpose-working vehicle in both rural and urban areas at an economical price. Since the sedan was already established as a robust reliable vehicle with proven ability to cope with tough Australian conditions, it was decided to produce a utility vehicle using the basic 48/215 design but with bodywork remodelled from the door-post back.
